Rubber: A Photog's Best Friend?

A few quick tricks...

Rubber and why it's so damn great:

  • Lens Hoods: a rubber hood will still protect your lens if it's dropped or hit at an angle, but it folds up to a fraction of the size that plastic/metal hoods require.

  • Rubber Bands: ok, so if you shoot film keep a few rubber bands on hand. Chances are at some point you'll buy a roll of something that you can't for the life of you figure out how to seal up ahem and those rubber bands will come in so handy

  • Bungie Cords: shooting in windy conditions doesn't require a severely heavy tripod or even attached weights - just attach one end of a bungie cord to the bottom of the vertical post (should be a hook or loop) and brace the other end under your foot. Instant stability w/ no extra weight.
